Experience

• Much experience in C/C++, examples are

  • JRTPLIB: low-level RTP library
  • EMIPLIB: more high-level audio/video streaming library
  • GRALE: core library is written in C++ for speed, but for ease of development and use higher-level functions are written in Python (C++/Python bindings are written using Cython)
  • Simulation of solar cells (using drift-diffusion equations): SimiConductor
  • Agent-based simulation model for HIV studies: SimpactCyan
  • Streaming from native Qt application to browser using WebRTC (demo code is outdated)

• Development of executables and libraries for Linux, MS-Windows, OS X

• Much experience with Python, for example

  • SherPass, a password manager that uses GPG (GNU Privacy Guard) for PGP-encryption
  • Python interface to GRALE
  • Automation of analysis (Blast, GenBank) of DNA sequences
  • Scripts to automate settings/updates for collections of MikroTik devices
  • Many, many smaller scripts to automate things on various servers

• Decent experience in JavaScipt, for example in

  • SlightSync, a tool for synchronized viewing of PDF slides
  • SubLime, a tool to add subtitles to HTML5 video
  • OSMCache, a web-site that can be used for basic geocaching (uses maps from OpenStreetMap, hence the ‘OSM’)

• Android apps:

  • QOsmCache: app that uses a browser component to display the web-based version.
  • AudioReceiver: app that can receive audio sent out by another program (uses cross-compiled JRTPLIB and EMIPLIB internally)

• Experience with Qt for GUI work

• Experience with OpenGL, but more with WebGL in browser

• Regarding high-performance computing (HPC): experience with OpenCL and CUDA, OpenMP, MPI

• Knowledge of Java, but not used actively for many years

• Modifications of Chrome/Chromium for research projects (making OpenCL and OpenGL4 available in the browser using JavaScript, making 10-bit color possible)

• Optimization/simulation in several contexts, some examples are

  • using (multi-objective) genetic algorithms for optimization in astrophysics problem (gravitational lens inversion)
  • finding optimal 3D shape using simulated annealing approach for a physical system (results present on pages 116-121 of a thesis, an animation is also available on-line)
  • compartmental model for simulation of influenza

• Basic (technical) blockchain knowledge (Bitcoin, Ethereum smart contracts)

• Many years experience maintaining Linux servers (mainly Debian based); twenty years experience using Slackware Linux as main desktop system

• Very basic experience with neural networks, including some hands-on experience with Keras

• No experience with Objective C

• Haven’t used SQL or databases in general actively for a very long time

• Only basic web development knowledge, no real experience making nice looking websites and CSS

Interests

I hope my experience so far reflects my interests:

• in general I like programming, from quite complex C++ frameworks to more straightforward scripts in Python or Bash. In essence, I like creating new, interesting things, and really focus on a topic.

• I’m typically more interested in non-GUI aspects (I’d rather write elegant code than make a pretty user interface).

• due to my background in both physics and computer science, it should not be a surprise that the overlap (computational science/scientific computing) is usually extra appealing.
